iPad Mini release date, price and specs news and rumours all rolled into one - read all the latest gossip on Apple's rumoured miniature slate Update: Apple has emailed out a series of invites to the media, inviting them to a special event in San Francisco, California, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, sparking rumours that it's planning to unveil the heavily-rumoured iPad Mini, as well as the iPhone 5. Albeit, information is pretty thin on the ground. Apple is keeping tight-lipped about what it plans to unveil at the event: the invite simply has the number 12 printed on it, along with the words 'it's almost here' hovering above it. The invite comes after months of internet rumours have hinted at the potential launch of a minature version of Apple's new iPad. Regular readers of this site will be all too aware of how quickly this post has grown to accomodate the ever-growing list of rumoured specifications the device is expected to host. For the newbies, here's a run down: two model options, one with a 7-inch screen, the other with a 9-inch screen, a stylus, iOS 6, an 8-megapixel snapper and a respectable £150-200 price tag.
Of course, none of the above are confirmed, so the device, if existed, could end up looking very unlike how the rumours describe it. But all our questions will soon be answered as T3 will be present at the UK-leg of the launch in London, so ensure you come back to this post to get the details straight out of the horses's mouth. Until then, we've listed the current rumours below. iPad Mini: How much will it cost? Chinese sources claim that the miniature iPad will be priced at around $250-$300 (£156-£187 respectively). Apple devices are notoriously expensive, so the launch of a cheap(er) tablet is a clear indication that the San Francisco firm is pulling out all the stops to ensure Amazon doesn’t steal its tablet crown. Some analysts also believe the launch of a mid-sized tablet will fend off competition from the likes of Samsung and Microsoft, both of which have been very active in their pursuits to overtake the world’s biggest company. Update: Based on the figures above, analysts claim Apple stands to gain about $100 in profit for each tablet sold. That figure is based on a calculation of its potential innards, with the screen costing the most at $49.54.
